Your Sensitivity Does Not Have to Limit Your Life.  It Is Not A Weakness.

You know you see and interact with the world differently, but you just can’t pinpoint how or why.  You may not even know a term exists for your experiences, but you would be relieved to know you’re not alone or crazy. You have been searching for clarity and guidance, but no one seems to be able to give you those.

You deserve to feel heard and to know your voice is respected and taken seriously. To be a BIPOC is exhausting, terrifying, and infuriating, while also being full of pride and beauty.

“Do You Feel Drained, Exhausted, Overwhelmed, Confused, Flustered?”

Do any of the following resonate with you?

Do any of the following resonate with you?

  • You want to shut down when met with loud noises, intense images, or smells.
  • You are overwhelmed in places like grocery stores, nightclubs, or shopping malls.
  • You tend to just sense when the moods or behaviors of others change, even if you can’t find words for it.
  • You have been told that you’re “too shy,” “too sensitive,” or “read too much into things.”
  • You feel and think deeply, even being accused of overreacting.
  • You like to take your time and observe before making moves, which others see as overthinking.
  • You feel “weak” or “crazy” because you don’t seem to handle things as well as others can.
  • You constantly feel drained and are unable to protect your energy, needing lots of time to recharge after intense experiences, whether good or bad.
  • You have trouble making even small decisions because you REALLY want what’s best for everyone.
  • You are so attuned to the feelings and needs of others that you often neglect your own self.
  • You can’t seem to just settle into changes or discomfort, even though you really want to adapt to make everyone else’s life easier.

If you see yourself in any of these, I want you to know that even if you are really struggling, nothing is wrong with you.

It’s not selfish to prioritize caring for yourself. You don’t have to always prioritize work or other people’s needs over your own needs.

Therapy for Highly Sensitive People (HSP) Can Help You Understand and Accept Who You Are

You can live a full life! You can adapt!  Imagine a life where you could…

Understand your sensitivity and experience it as a strength.

  • Actually practice self-care that makes your needs the priority.
  • Adapt your activities, work, and relationships to your sensitivity so that you can fully thrive and enjoy life.
  • Have the courage to express your needs without shame.
  • Recognize the power of sensitivity and how to use it to your benefit in all situations.
  • Find healing and resolution from past situations where your sensitivity was at work and you just didn’t realize it.
  • Learn the difference between sensitivity and other things you may have been mislabeled as, such as codependent or shy.

Create a Life You Can Live As Who You Really Are

There are things you can do right now to help you embrace and adapt to your sensitivity.  One way to help you through this is to change your self-talk through positive affirmations.  Here’s how:

  1. Notice the thoughts running through your mind as you go through the day.
  2. Ask yourself if those are words you would speak to someone you love or care for.
  3. Insert a positive and realistic affirmation.  Write this out, put it in places you look often, and repeat it out loud to yourself throughout the day.

My name is Adrianna Taylor and I am a therapist and Highly Sensitive Person who is here to help.  I know it feels like you have deep experiences that others can’t relate to.  You may feel like you just don’t fit into the world or can’t figure out this trait. You may feel like something is wrong with you or like you’re broken.  You’re not!  You deserve to live a life that honors your sensitivity.  Even if you are not sure if your problem is serious enough, Therapy for HSP helps you understand your sensitivity is a superpower.
